In 1881 he lived at 2 Dibbly Court, Bristol. Born in Bristol (Wotton-under-Edge, north-east of Bristol), Edward is my maternal grandfather.
On January 8th 1897, aged 19, Edward is shown here Archive [1000] as having been admitted to Dreadnought Seamans Hospital. Seems he suffered from "burn of leg". He stayed for 38 days. Discharge was February 14th
According to Kitty “Edwards's mother was a lady's companion with a position in Hastings”.
By 1901 the family had moved to London and Edward was then aged 22. In 1905 he married Alice Binning.
Over the next nine years they had five children, Alice Mary (Doll), William Francis (Bob), Kate Amelia(Kitty), Archibald Edward, and the youngest, John Frederick
Sadly Edward was never to see them grow up as in 1916, when the eldest of the five children, Alice Mary, was just 10 years old, he had gone off to war and was killed in France.
He is buried in Spoilbank Cemetery Belgium After his death all his medals went to Uncle John and when he died, we think Auntie Pat gave them away.He was awarded a War Gratuity. See here what this means, and below for the image of his entry in the Soldiers Effects Register
